One of our summers in Romania, we helped put on a kid’s camp. It turned into one of our most chaotic weeks as we were far outnumbered by both energetic kids and wild mice. More details are in Chapter 9 I Can Only Imagine of Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
Lilly was one of the sweet residents in the nursing home in Arad, Romania. Her story is one of my favorites from our time in Arad. It is told in Chapter 11 Lilly’s Christmas of Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
Dorel was one of our friends who faithfully attended my brother’s “Train station club”. He and the others who lived in and around the train station had difficult lives, but Dorel still always found a reason to smile. His story is in Chapter 13 Just like Me of Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
Florica was the wailing beggar woman I first heard when we stepped out of the train station in Arad, Romania. At that moment, I had been a little scared of her. As time passed, our family spent time with her and grew to know she and her family. Florica is mentioned in Chapter 1 The Adventure Begins and Chapter 6 Angel’s Christmas Mob in Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
John and Ghita were both men we met in the Arad nursing homes. John’s story is told in Chapter 5 Puzzle Pieces and Ghita’s story is in Chapter 12 Ghita’s Lion of Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
Mary, Rexi and fellow missionary friend Jodie were some of my favorites to spend my days with during our years in Arad. More about those friendships is in Chapter 14 Unlikely Friendships in Stories of a Scrappy Missionary Kid.
On one of our travels within Romania, we met someone who had just purchased a lion. It was a short lived but fun relationship between me and it.
